This audiobook was absolutely beautiful. Kim Michele Richardson brought me right back into the Book Woman world, and once again, this story hit me straight in the heart. Cussy Lovett’s journey is powerful, emotional, heartbreaking, and full of Appalachian grit and hope.
Being from this area made this story feel even more personal to me. These mountains are not just a setting. They feel like home. The history, the poverty, the injustice, the strength of the women, and the importance of books and literacy all felt so real and meaningful.
Katie Schorr’s narration was wonderful. Her voice carried the emotion of the story so well, and she made the characters and setting feel alive. The audiobook felt like sitting with a story that needed to be heard, not just read.
This book reminded me why stories matter. Why books matter. Why history matters. It is heartbreaking, hopeful, and unforgettable.
A beautiful 5 star audiobook that I highly recommend for historical fiction lovers, Appalachian fiction readers, and anyone who loved The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.
