Book: The Magician's Wife by Lora Jones

4 stars. Fast, fun, and surprisingly addictive.
This mystery throws you straight into the chaos, and honestly that pace works. Clare’s life flips from harmless little articles to chasing a very messy case, and the whole thing has this “how did I end up here?” energy that’s weirdly charming.
The dynamic between Clare and Mara is the highlight. They actually feel like a team, not a genius plus an accessory. Both of them notice things, both push the investigation forward, and their different strengths make the story feel balanced.
The whole talent-show angle adds a fun twist, and a couple moments had me turning pages faster than I expected. And even when you think you’re putting the pieces together early, it still feels good when things click.
There’s humor, a bit of heart, and just enough magic-world flair to make it stand out. The final tease sets up the next book nicely, and yeah… I’d definitely pick it up.
