The Gifted Heart by Tiffany Davis follows the story of Kenna, a young white witch able to commune with the spirit world, who suddenly finds herself alone in a world where magic is forbidden after her clan are slaughtered. The King of Orkeia has outlawed all magic and Knights patrol for any use of magic. Kenna sets out to seek revenge against the King, but on the way finds another magical clan and she finds a home with them. But it's not long before they are found and their world is turned upside down when Kenna is captured, and she finds the King may not be who he seems after all.
There are quite a few twists and turns, there is dark magic and demons and a prophecy in play. The magical abilities of the characters are quite unique and interesting. Kenna's ability to commune with spirits is a wonderful way to learn about the lore of their world. I loved that the lore was rich and explained without taking me out of the story. There is romance but no spice so it's suitable for a younger audience too. The ending was a complete shock and I'm desperate to know what happens next!
This is Tiffany's debut novel and I could feel the love and care that went into the story, it is beautifully written. I'm completely hooked and look forward to more in the series, with Book 2 already in the works. Thank you to Tiffany for the advanced copy.
