After being without magic her whole life, Imani is suddenly revealed to be a powerful witch, who soon finds herself entwined with a brilliant but evil prince whose need for Imani goes beyond court intrigue. The magic system in The Elf Witch is really interesting, it can be a little overwhelming at times with all that is going on but it gives the magic extra depth and is unusual from what I've read before. The main characters are morally black and it's a nice change to see a woman being an antihero lead in a dark fantasy. Though the interactions between the main characters are therefore quite intense, despite the attraction between Imani and Kiran they actually hate each other, or so they say. Due to their natures it makes it hard to really like them, but between the magic system, the villainous characters and the ending (!!!) I'm intrigued enough to read the next book to see where the story goes from here.

Thank you to Jacquelyn Gilmore and Luna Literary for the advanced copy, my opinions are my own.
