Hooked in a Heartbeat ⭐
The cover caught my attention immediately, and thankfully the story lived up to it.
I was completely hooked within the first few pages. The humor landed right away, the dialogue was sharp, and the characters had me laughing more than once. It was fun, funny, and incredibly easy to sink into.
What really sold this book for me was the romance. I didn't just fall in love with the characters. I fell in love with watching them fall in love with each other. The yearning, the desperation, and the slightly unhinged intensity between them made it impossible not to root for them. There were even a few spicy scenes where I realized I'd literally stopped breathing.
The story also has just enough angst to give the romance some emotional weight without becoming heavy. The ending was sweet, heartfelt, and left me smiling.
My only complaint is that I wanted more. The story moves from yearning to love to the aftermath so quickly that I found myself wishing for more of the middle. I wanted more stolen moments, more falling in love, and more time to simply enjoy these characters together. Honestly, that says more about how much I enjoyed these characters than anything else.
I loved this book and immediately wanted to read more by Lexie Slater. If this is any indication of the author's style, I can't wait to dive into the rest of their catalog.
