Military romance isn't really my thing to begin with, and Summit of Ash is VERY much a military romance. The military setting is heavily woven throughout its entirety. I found myself struggling to connect with it or get invested in what was happening.
That said, I don't think this was a bad book by any means! It just wasn't a book that worked for ME. It was a pretty quick, easy read, and by the end I was genuinely rooting for Catherine and Rhys. I just never reached the point where I cared enough to be emotionally invested in their story. I was basically watching everything happen from a safe distance like 👁️👄👁️
The secret society/thriller elements were interesting, but I think I went into this expecting more thriller and romance and got more black ops military than anything.
BUT! I will give Leah props for one thing... a virgin MMC?!?! 👀
There is something about a man who has absolutely no idea what he's doing that is… surprisingly hot. Sooo... Rhys can stay. 😂
