I really wanted to like this book, but it was a little overwhelming. The illustrations were good and had a whimsical feel to them. I could definitely tell where pictures had been taken from other sources to match the content that the author was explaining and those were on point. When I selected this book, I thought it would be a cute fairytale book that added in some STEM or showed where there was some STEM within fairytales, but that was not the case. Unfortunately, the over-explaining bored me and my littles (ages 8 & 9). I tried twice to read this book in the second time I got about 70% of the way through it and just couldn’t do it anymore. If this book had more fairytale to it then scientific explaining it would’ve been excellent book the age range of 7 to 14 really needs to be bumped up more to late middle school high school aged because there was a lot of words used that still takes a lot more explaining than what the author put in. If you have an older, more inquisitive child they might like this, but for me, it was a struggle.
I want to thank NetGalley, author DongA Science and publisher Poppypub for the opportunity to read this advanced copy and give my own opinions on it.
