Marly is the good girl daughter of the Mayor who does as she's told. River is the bad boy car racing mechanic from the wrong side of town, grieving his brother's death. A chance encounter sets in motion a plan for River to avenge his brother's death, at the hands of Marly's brother. Break Marly to break her brother. But when he instead falls for her he second guesses whether his feelings are a betrayal to his brother, until the truth about Marly's family comes out and tears them apart.
River is such a sweetie underneath that tough guy exterior, although he's definitely a touch her and die guy, but also brings it when the spice starts. Marly is a kind young lady who after living a very sheltered rich girl life takes it upon herself to right some of the wrongs her family caused and she really starts to grow as she gets away from her family.
An enjoyable read, with some real emotional moments especially for River who is still traumatised by his brother's death. One of my favourite quotes was a lesson I still struggle with ... "Don't ever apologize for telling a person no, Marly. No doesn't require an explanation or an apology."
