oooh oof.
OOF.
I wanted to like this book. I mean it. I really, really, REALLY did. Bowling? Hell. Yeah, sign me up. Sunshine/Grump. Gimmie. My bookish bestie @chaireadlatte got the arc, and I'd been WAITING to catch up.
Lemme tell y'all something, I read really, really fast. If I like a book, I can crush 400 pages or so in a night/day whatever.
I got this book on KU on Sept 25 and just finished it today Oct 13. For me? That is, ah, not good. And if me and my friend hadn't been doing a delayed buddy read, I probably wouldn't have finished it at all.
Which, DANG, is just really such a shame. There were pieces of it there, this thing that could have been mind blowing. But the subplots didn't have the research they needed (pet peeve), the emotional arcs didn't have enough beats to root them, and I just didn't feel anything. For me there was no swoop, no hunger to tear through the next page.
If you're a bowling superfan, I'd still give this a look!
