I love the school that Serena has created, and I really love the lore rules and magic system, its so creative and fun, it's different to have a system in place based around witches and their wands.
The general story is unimaginably wonderful, and to know it's based on true events is heartbreaking for our incredible author! >>feel like she's my bookbestie and I'm thoroughly on her side! The way that Zaria (Zar-I-ah? Zar-E-ah? Zar-yah?) Handles all of the obstacles, twists and turns is a wonderful and really unique/rare/ refreshing take on how NOT to be a b1tch when your either pi55ed off or when your on top of the world ruling the school. (If it were me, I'd have been a shallow, soul destroying, evil cow bag, and defo wouldn't have been able to put a long-term plan together!)
Anywho...
The revenge story is truly captivating and unusual, full of great banter, and incredible high road taking that had me simply unable to put the book down!
I read this in a matter of hours - only stopping to feed my kids. Ugh, kids...
Zar-E-ah is a character! I fell in love with her IMMEDIATELY, and even though she was bullied and used and just taken for granted, she was so strong, brave, kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and extremely powerful. All the while the awful witch was plotting against her She managed to pull her true friends in closer, have a lot of fun, and get her first kiss - nothing was holding her back or getting in the way of her future or her plans for... REVENGE!
The spice in this book is about a 2 out of 5. It's really well written and does get spicy, but not enough details in the scenes to warrant a bigger rating. No b00b play or specific details, so if you like a hot and heavy scene but less specifics, then this is for you! I can't go into more detail without giving spoilers, so I'm afraid that's all you're getting on the spice. You'll understand soon enough..
The only reason I didn't go full 5 is because it was so damn ama,ING that I wanted more- I wanted a longer story with more background on how our badd ass FMC met her best mate Sam and maybe some more of her history, it would have been nice to get some more background on the college and general life and on why our resident sarcastic vamp and the grot bag kara have such a damn bee in their bonnet. Plus, I'll be honest- I wanted more spice, I got really angry at the shower scene, and I mean, I was ready to message the author to let her know! But 2 pages later, I felt better. However, I would really have loved a 3 or even 4 chilly spice rating as this book is so damn good it could easily rock that level of spice! Basically, I'm just greedy and want more, more, more! So, I'm extremely happy that book 2 is in the works, and I'm damn sure that will be a 5-star read! Also- I will fight you over that first copy!
