Thank you Hollie, for the advance copy of your book! I truly loved it ❤️‍🔥 My rating is 4.5⭐ and rounded up here!
This was such a powerful story! We know that villains are not born, they are made, and the Queen of Ashes is no exception. Reading about Rhiain's childhood, how her parents married her off to the King, how he treated her, and how society saw women's role as nothing more than breeders was heartbreaking. There were scenes that were really hard to read, with very heavy subjects, but they were the essence of it all, the foundation of how the Queen became who she is now. They were crucial to understand, because there was so much devastation and despair. But she rose above it and kept going ❤️‍🩹
I really loved the loyalty between the Queensguards and Rhiain, even from the start when she was the King's wife, and I was sobbing so hard when she freed them, when she still had so much goodness in her. I also loved the relationship between Nalia and Khian, and I was suddenly sobbing again when... well, I don't want to spoil anything.. IYKYK 💔
The ending was the perfect link between this prequel and Hillie's debut novel, The Hunter's Heart, and that got me hooked to start reading it immediately! 🔥
