Kicking and Screaming…Until I Wasn’t

I was SO excited for Shay’s story, and the first half absolutely delivered. I was kicking and screaming after the first chapter, stayed up way past my bedtime, and had to make myself stop reading. Shay was everything I hoped he’d be, and I loved finally getting to know the guy I’d been so curious about through the rest of the series.

Somewhere in the second half, though, it lost me a little.

I kept waiting for the romance to grab me by the heart again, but it felt like the story became more focused on everything happening around the relationship than the relationship itself. The pacing slowed down for a bit, and while I understood why, I never quite found that emotional thread again.

I still had a good time. Lexie Slater remains one of my favorite comfort authors, and I’ll happily pick up the next book without hesitation. This one just didn’t hit me the way Rebound My Alpha did.
Maybe that’s because my expectations were sky high.

Or maybe I just wanted a little more time watching Shay and Declan fall in love.

Either way, I’m still all in for this series
