"Penpal" by Dathan Auerbach is a chilling and thought-provoking journey that masterfully taps into the deepest corners of our primal fears. This collection of interconnected stories is a unique and haunting take on the horror genre that leaves a lasting impact. The book's structure, initially born from a series of online posts, adds a layer of authenticity to the narrative. The stories are woven together with a thread of unease and anticipation, keeping you engaged as you delve deeper into the interconnected tales. Auerbach's writing style is both atmospheric and descriptive, creating an immersive experience that allows you to visualize the unsettling events as they unfold. Though I was able to connect to the MC, it was difficult reading at times and be it as it may silly, I didn’t enjoy that we never knew the MC’s name. It delves into themes that are deeply unsettling and explores the darker aspects of human nature. If you're a fan of psychological horror that lingers in your thoughts long after you've finished reading, this book is well worth your time.
