Another dark romance by Sylvia Black that will leave you grabbing for the next book! told from a duel POV-, which helps deliver a fuller perspective.
Wow! This book was damn near a 5* read for me, the worst bit about it - it was over too soon! Seriously, I was done in just over 2 hours and gutted!
This is my favourite book so far.
I didn't put my kindle down for a second, I found bits that stumped me, parts that surprised me, sections that threw fire under me and lit up my cheeks! And omg the twist!! I didn't not see that or the second twist coming! I was just there lay back in bed reading away and the next thing I know my back is aching be ause not only am I now sat right up with the covers thrown off me but I'm leaning forward literally on the edge of my seat!
Its fast paced, moving quickly but not too quick as too miss out on the juicy darkest details that Sylvia is so good at writing. With good characters- some from previous books that you know all about and some side characters you want to know more about and a great story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and sorcery, family and relationships, supernatural fire and obsession. Its a dark paranormal, fated mates, mysterious abilities, enemies to lovers, touch her and ☠️, age-gap, vampire mafia romance tale.
Sadly like the other books The relationship aspect has no real build up - it is all of sudden - they belong together. However, unlike the past two books, this fated mates trope did differ in a way that was exciting and funny. It wasn't just love/lust at first sight, I want you and need you, I want you back... no! Because although they may be fated mates, I found that Chara was giving him a damn good run for his money, which was very entertaining and refreshing to read from sylvia. While she agrees to the life of a Dom/Sub relationship, she is no door mat. And Master Bistrita will need to accept that quickly! he realizes that she has a problem following any rules of any kind offering to change his contracted rules for the first time to offer flexibility and "go slow and create ours (rules) together" after realising that "there's something so different about Chara, something wild and impulsive and so real that some of my rules may need to be refreshed to ensure no piece of her personality in not allowed to come shining through". which makes for some very interesting and intense interactions between them. Oh, and major points for encouraging and promoting safe words!
I thought the character aspect was similar to previous books, in respect of the master who is the mmc. He is demanding and protective of all that is his, just like every other master. The fmc is feisty, not a virgin for a change, and is wanting to accept the fated mates role but is actually questioning it rather than just jumping straight in like the previous books I have read. And as in all the other books, there are still secrets, mysteries, love, agendas, politcs, a bunch of witches, a variety of other paranormal beings alongside a choice of super sexy alpha vampires who Reign supreme, are fiercely loyal, and will protect what is theirs no matter the cost. And its set in the same remote town on the edge of the wilderness, where there are old world factions, greed and revenge, secret agendas, and a lot of secrets!
I really like how the books all tend to flow into one another. Sylvia is able to really engage the reader and keep your focus on this book. The chemistry between the characters is wonderful and adds to the appeal of this series. I also like how there are multiple couples within the story, but I do wish you got a little more of the previous characters in each book. For example; in book 9 we meet a fmc with psychic abilities, and there were so many opportunities to bring her into this book and the previous one. Or in book 10 we meat Master oradea and his mate and again its a relationship that could have had more of a role in this book bring even more depth and adding more pages that we all need!
Personally I wish the previous book was condensed and just added to this book with a few extra details that I felt were missing to claim that full 5 stars. This is one book I highly recomend though but please read it is a series, I don't know why these are advertised as stand alone because you loose so very much and it just isn't as much of an enjoyable read without the books the came before...
I can not wait for the next one, although it was a great ending it was still left on a cliff hanger leaving you begging for more!
