Beware, This One Has Teeth

The pain was delicious torture.

This book started out making me wonder if I was even going to like it, and then somehow I ended up so completely invested in these characters that I couldn’t do anything but keep reading. I stayed up too late because I needed to be there with them while they found their way to each other.

The A/B/O in this felt different. It wasn’t just a trope sitting on top of the story. It was part of the world. Part of everyday life. The political issues around it were constantly questioned, and it all felt so real and so well rounded.

And the characters. Oh my god. They got under my skin. The book is slower and sleepier than what I usually read, but it never dragged. The ache was just there. All the way through. The yearning was devastating, and somehow the slower pace made it hurt even more.

The ending is where I struggled.

It was sensible. It was steady. It made sense.

And I hated it.

I did not go through 525 pages of emotional hell for these two to decide they liked each other and were going to date. I needed something as intense as everything that came before it. That’s not why I read romance.

Still, if a book can make me this obsessed with its characters, I’m going to recommend it. Even if I also want to complain about how much it hurt me.
