I genuinely cannot explain how bad the writing in this book was. I took screenshots and sent them to my friends so we could make fun of it. It was that bad.

And yet...

I read every single page.

I didn't skim. I didn't want to DNF it. There was something underneath all that terrible prose that kept pulling me forward. The beginning felt pretty surface-level, but as the characters started to develop and their backstories came through, the relationship started to become something I actually cared about.

And it was hot. I'll give it that.

The whole “I'm a straight guy who doesn't do that” thing was also ridiculous in exactly the way that kept me entertained. But eventually the characters started to feel more developed, the connection between them started to grow, and I had that moment of, okay... maybe there's something here.

The writing is still horrendous. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But the fact that I read every page of a book I thought was this badly written has to mean something.

There is a spark here.
