⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heir of Illusion by Madeline Taylor
I don’t even know where to begin with this one.
I went into Heir of Illusion thinking I had everything figured out and I was convinced I had predicted the ending. I was completely wrong. The story took a direction I didn’t expect at all, and that final twist genuinely caught me off guard in the best way.
Ivy (FMC) was such a strong and engaging character. She’s funny, resilient, and deeply caring, and her personality made it incredibly easy to get invested in the story. Her relationships, especially the banter, added so much life to the book.
Thorne (MMC)… easily one of my favorite types of characters. Tall, dark, and shadowy, with a presence that pulls you in immediately. The chemistry between Ivy and Thorne was excellent, and the slow burn romance was handled really well. It built naturally and kept me fully invested the entire time.
The pacing kept me hooked throughout. I was constantly trying to piece together what would happen next, only for the story to take a completely different turn which made it even more satisfying.
The side characters were also a highlight, and I’m really hoping to see more development from them in the next book.
This was my first time reading Madeline Taylor, and it definitely won’t be my last. I’m already looking forward to continuing the series.
Overall: 5 stars.
And now I desperately need book two.
