This installment was a massive step up from the first in the series for me. The pacing was so much better; the story flowed effortlessly with the perfect blend of tension, action, and character development that kept me turning pages.
I was fully prepared to rate it 4.5 stars... until that ending hit. Even though I already knew Celaena’s real identity going in, the way everything unfolded still managed to deliver an emotional gut-punch that completely surprised me. The stakes, the revelations, and the sheer intensity of those final chapters elevated the whole experience.
