"A birthday party: A place where you shouldn't think about poisoning your best friend's older brother."
Elma (aka Medusa or little devil) HR professional, loves people Armin (aka the devil of Antwerp or Tech Boy) Brooding CEO This book starts off getting to know the characters in this group of friends and how they are all connected, as well as Elma and Armin's intense dislike of each other going back to when they were kids. There are hints of Elma having a troubled past and when she experiences panic attacks she finds support in the unlikely hands of Armin. While they keep finding themselves drawn to each other, they must keep up the facade so date in secret. When Elma's past turns up to confront her things get a little dark and Armin shows he's not afraid to get his hands dirty for her.
Don't let the cute cover fool you, there are triggering subjects on and off page, so as always check the content warnings before reading. That said, I love a good tale of revenge and taking one's power back, and Cat Got Your Tongue certainly has that. The main characters are of Bosnian heritage and throughout the story are phrases in Bosnian, which are helpfully translated via footnotes. The story is set in Antwerp, Belgium with side trips to Istanbul and Paris. It's refreshing to read a story in a different type of environment and culture, I feel I need to expand my horizons in this respect.
The spice was unexpectedly spicy, Armin turns out to be quite the little devil himself.
"I want to spank her ass red because of her attitude ... but I also want her to tell me to be quiet and be a good boy."
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Cat Got Your Tongue and I'm really looking forward to more in the series!
