I picked up Bonded by Thorns because I was really intrigued by the Beauty and the Beast retelling aspect especially with a fae twist. That’s completely my vibe.
At first, though… I struggled. There were a lot of direct nods and reused lines from the original story, and it honestly made me question if I was going to be able to get through it. It felt a little too familiar in the beginning.
But I’m not usually one to DNF a book, so I kept going and I’m really glad I did.
Once the story started to grow into its own, I got pulled in fast. The pacing picked up, the characters became more layered, and before I knew it, I had finished the book in two days.
Rosalina
She honestly deserved so much better than what she gave herself credit for especially when it comes to Lucas. Between him and her father, it’s no surprise she struggles with her self-worth. Her father was barely present her whole life, always leaving her behind, so of course when Lucas saves her, she clings to that. It made total sense emotionally, even if it was frustrating to watch at times.
The Princes
Kel – I understand he’s been hurt before, and that explains why he acts the way he does… but wow, he really tested my patience.
Dayton – Omg I LOVED him. His sarcasm and one-liners had me laughing the entire time. He was easily one of the highlights of the book for me.
Farron – Such a sweetheart. I loved how bookish he is (perfect match for Rosalina), and the way he’s unsure of himself around her just made him even more endearing.
Ezryn – The protector of the group. I really liked the internal conflict he has feeling like maybe he shouldn’t have the emotions he does. It added a lot of depth to his character.
Cassien – I think I liked him from the very beginning. Tall, dark, mysterious… and clearly hiding something. And honestly, who doesn’t love that? I’m very curious to see what secrets he’s keeping.
Final Thoughts
This started off as a book I wasn’t sure I’d even finish… and turned into one I flew through and couldn’t put down. The character dynamics, tension, and growing intrigue completely pulled me in.
In fact, I finished it and immediately made sure I had the rest of the series ready to go.
