Daughter of the Night is a dark fantasy that has stolen my breath away and ruined me for other books.
The writing is descriptive, lyrical, emotive, and flows like classical music with beautiful, soft melodic periods and crashing crescendos. It is phenomenal and immersive. This is a slow burn, but a slow burn done absolutely right.
The characters in this book, both main and side alike, are well rounded and fully developed. The world building is clear and effortless to visualise. The magical element is cleverly unique and in this saturated genre, that is something so few authors achieve - and this is Gemma's debut! Let that sink in for a moment.
I cannot with the ending of this book though! It hit me hard and threw me into a reading slump of epic proportions. But I regret nothing. NOTHING! Well, maybe that book two is not yet released.
Gemma Vale has a rare talent of delivering classical, lyrical writing that fully immerses the reader, without seeming pretentious, gifting them with vivid descriptions throughout every aspect of the book.
I know that I will be standing at the front of the queue when book two is announced, and I cannot wait to have a physical copy of Daughter of the Night in my hands, because this is for certain, going on my(very selective) re-reads shelf.
