This book devoured me.
I flew through the first half without realizing it because I was so immediately pulled in by Tessa—her pain, her strength, her confusion, her hope. She’s such a deeply relatable protagonist, and I ached for her even as I rooted for her to find freedom and love. The bond as a plot device works so well here—it drives the tension forward while adding emotional depth in every scene between her and Theon. And oh, Theon. Hot. Broody. Mysterious. Calling her little storm? Instant favorite nickname in a book.
There’s so much to love: the slow unveiling of Tessa’s hidden power, the moral grayness of nearly every character, and the twist (!!!) that she’s the daughter of a forgotten god. That moment cracked the whole world open, and I cannot wait to see how she rises in the next book.
The themes of identity, control, power, and loyalty are layered so well. I never knew who to trust, and that unpredictability kept my heart racing. This is the kind of romantasy that sneaks up on you and grabs hold.
