I'm always delighted when I get to read something new by Emma Lord. Ever seen reading an ARC for Tweet Cute years ago, she has been an autobuy/autoarc author for me. So imagine my delight when I saw that she was starting a series.
We follow Rosie, a 19-year-old bodyguard, who gets into hot water with her boss. As a result, she gets an overseas mission protecting the recently found lost heir of Marilova.
The Good:
Queen Lenore. She's like Queen Clarice (movie version, not mean book version) and I want to protect her with everything I have.
The mystery. It has a good back and forth with whodunnit.
The romance between two side characters.
The Ok
The romance between the MCs. I found their connection a little insta-lovey and somewhat hollow. But still cute in many ways.
The quick build up to a potential love triangle.
The Marberries. So. Many. Marberry references. And most of them sound fire, but at a certain point it was just a lot.
The Eh
Rosie's ability to be a focused bodyguard. Like, girl, I get that you're falling for each other, but you are getting way too distracted. Which, to be fair, she's 19 so I can't hold her crazy accountable.
Overall, I did enjoy Unroyally Yours. While I didn't love it, I will still very happily gobble up book 2 when it comes out so I can see what's going to become of that ENDING.
