Portal fantasy x Omegaverse

Book: Tears of the Stolen by Jillian Rink

I enjoyed elements of this but the slower pacing and number of characters (including the mythological ones) impacted my engagement a little. Its book one in a series and I appreciate the world building/set up (which did make me empathise with Amethyst who was dropped into this world blind; it did make me laugh when Amethyst mentioned needing a reference) but by the mid point of the journey I was struggling to remember who was who, and who was with who. Although this is an omegaverse, the pack/clan element doesn't seem as prevalent and its more focussed on a single alpha and a single omega and their characteristics.

I liked both the MCs, Callum, the greenest of green flags, and Amethyst, the FMC who has been in survival mode for years. Sloan, Amethyst's twin sister, who is also in this realm, doesn't play as big a part as I expected and after the emphasis on siblings, I was surprised not to see any of her POV. Amethyst is hiding some pretty big secrets from her twin and I'm hoping the full story is going to be revealed as it definitely feels like there is more to it than has been mentioned so far. I also loved the lack of OW drama; currently there are no pre-arranged matings or spurned characters waiting in the wings which was refreshing. I am intrigued by the prophecy element too and that cliffhanger which is going to have massive consequences has hooked me in for the second book.

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it overall; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
