3.5⭐️ The structure of this book caused the lower rating. You have dual POVs between the MMC and the FMC, and it alternates between "then" and "now." Occasionally, this plotting works in stories with big plot twists, but in reality, it just causes massive confusion for the reader. That was the case in Fallen City. You don't clearly see the conflict, and you can't learn about and grow attachments to the characters, leaving you disconnected and bored. The love also falls flat because of this. There is strong dialogue at times between the MMC and FMC that could make it a heartwarming story with heavy political machinations, but the time jumps rip it all away. It had so much potential, and I'm sad I didn't like it more.
