A magical castle with a mischievous streak? A broody MMC in his 40s who insists on carrying the weight of the world and punishing himself for every past mistake? A little traumatized FMC who slowly grows into an absolute force of nature? Oh, and a bookwyrm with a razor-sharp tongue thrown in for good measure? Yes, please.
There is so much to love here. The vibes are just right and this book wraps around you like a warm blanket. Watching the FMC take the reins of her own life is genuinely inspiring, and you will feel every single step of her journey.
The MMC had my whole heart even if I wanted to shake him occasionally. I have a weakness for men in their 40s with too much guilt and not enough self-compassion. I just wish he'd gone a little easier on himself. Still, completely lovable.
The side characters are an absolute highlight. Every single one of them made me want to drop everything and read their story immediately. The brothers especially, I am so ready for all of it.
Yes, the plot is predictable. No, that is not a flaw. These books exist to be comfort reads and the last thing you want in your cozy reading is unexpected twists throwing you off. Sometimes you just want to feel safe in a story.
The spice delivers without ever hijacking the plot, the perfect balance.
Cannot wait to continue this series.
