The cover art for Kingdom of the Owl alone would have had me grabbing it from the shelf — but thankfully, what’s inside is every bit as captivating.
Christine Drummond had me hooked from the very beginning. Her writing is beautifully descriptive without feeling overly heavy, and the world-building? Threllwood felt REAL. I genuinely struggled every time I had to leave it and return to boring old reality.
And this isn’t a book to rush.
I’m normally guilty of flying through the pages when I’m loving a book, but Kingdom of the Owl made me want to slow down and completely immerse myself. PJs on, snacks within reach, cosy blanket, candles lit — THAT was my preferred Threllwood reading experience.
I became so attached to these characters. I felt their pain, suffered through the yearning, got butterflies alongside them and, occasionally, rolled my eyes so hard at their interactions that I’m surprised they didn’t get permanently stuck.

The Druid magic was a particular highlight for me — it’s something I don’t see nearly enough of in fantasy, and I loved the ancient, elemental feel it brought to the story.
Now, Christine... about that ending?! Because I need to return to Threllwood IMMEDIATELY. That was simply not OK.
