This book takes the energy from the previous one and cranks it up a couple notches. There is no amnesia, but there is kidnapping, running through the woods, masks, more spice, handcuffs and some hard decisions. And everything happens in less than a month...
Atlas and Maizyn move back to Allendale, from Willowbrook where the last book took place, and they leave Gavin in charge of getting the Willowbrook branch of Torres Security in order so he can come back too. Finally after a few weeks he has everything settled and comes home
Now here's a few introductions:
-Gavin, he's perfected being the life of the party. Could be with someone at the push of a button, but he's still lonely.
-Atlas, he's the strong silent brooding type. Maizyn broke that shell but it took losing her to figure out he needed her.
-Maizyn, she loves Atlas yet she's still navigating the trauma from the end of the last book and regaining her memories.
Gavin is back in town and looking forward to meeting Maizyn. Atlas picks him up from a hotel and not his old place, because the lease was up. Atlas invites him to stay with him and Maizyn. They get to the bar, Elixirs, have a drink and talk while waiting for Maizyn to show. When she shows up Gavin is drawn to her like a moth to a flame, he wants her but she's his best friend's girl.
Maizyn gets drunk at the bar, Atlas punches a guy for trying to touch her, Gavin grabs her and they leave before the cops show. She starts to have a panic attack, Atlas is driving so Gavin climbs in the back seat with her. The other ways aren't working so, bright idea, he kisses her to calm her down. Surprising him he does not get a punch or a slap, just a thank you. The next morning Maizyn and Atlas are messing around, and Gavin stops in the doorway and watches the whole scene and liked it. Then casually asks to get a cup of coffee that they are in front of. Atlas wasn't fooled knew he had been there the whole time and he wasn't jealous or angry. Atlas is intrigued by this turn of events, he and Gavin have never shared a partner before, would Maizyn be willing to try.
Gavin gets a call from Ramos for an off the books job, accepts it and heads back to the hotel to get his things and car. While there, Atlas calls and says Maizyn wants to talk about the previous night. Gavin gets home and sees her trying a BookTok trend on Atlas, says he can do better and proceeds to do just that, he's still not jealous of Gavin. They get to the events of the night before, lets just say the conversation invovles a drinking game, handcuffs, stripping, and sex on Gavin's lap but he's fully clothed (poor baby). Pretty sure Atlas pushed him a little too far with that last bit.
Over the next week Gavin keeps getting distracted by Maizyn, Maizyn worries Atlas thinks she's too much and is trying to push her towards Gavin, and Atlas is trying to figure out why Maizyn is acting strange but doesn't want to push her so does nothing. All this and we aren't even half way through the book.
They went to the bar again, had drinks and she recreated the first meeting of her and Atlas and this time included Gavin in the fun for that. When they got home Atlas blindfolded her and cuffed her on the couch, Gavin walks in again on accident this time he participates. Goes to his room broods, and tries to work on Ramos' job. The hacker was out hacked and now Gavin needs a new laptop. Atlas corners him about the night before and tells him he can tell that Maizyn owns his heart as much as she owns his. Atlas gives him a mask and says meet us at the woods. Atlas doesn't tell Maizyn to expect an extra person that night so she's surprised.
Maizyn was walking home from a bookstore and was stopped by a creepy guy and she threatened him with a fork, that she "borrowed" from the diner she had lunch at. Got home and told the boys about it, Gavin takes off. The guy she described is the guy he's been looking in to for Ramos, thinks he has to leave to keep them safe. Then we have a series of bad decisions on his part, there is a car accident, kidnapping at gun point and breaking into bad guy hide out to rescue kidnapped person.... and then to top it all off matching tattoos are gotten.
It's a great book and a fun read. Enjoy the chaos that is Perfect Chaos.
