Damsel in distress, rescued by her one true love

๐Ÿ“Cliff Notes Review-
Our Immortal Hearts was an enjoyable audiobook, but not one thatโ€™s going to live rent-free in my head. The opening hooked me with its foreboding atmosphere, and I loved the found family, the wider supernatural world and Quillโ€™s personality. The romance never quite reached the emotional depth I was hoping for. It leaned heavily into insta-lust and fated mates, with plenty of spice but not enough relationship building to make their devotion feel fully earned. The middle lost some momentum, the ending felt a little rushed, and a few more details about the world and magic wouldโ€™ve elevated the story. Overall, this is a fun, easy vampire romantasy thatโ€™s worth picking up on audio, especially if youโ€™re after a fast-paced listen with straightforward world-building and plenty of spice.

The audio is what stopped me from DNF but if you like the tropes then either will lay out the story well.

The audiobook, however, genuinely elevated the experience for me. Both narrators delivered fantastic performances, even at my usual 1.7x speed. Every emotion came across naturally, whether it was fear, anger, grief or desire. The gasps, breaths, frustration and quieter emotional moments all felt authentic rather than overacted. I honestly think the narration was what kept me fully invested through some of the slower parts of the story. Had I been physically reading this instead, I genuinely think thereโ€™s a good chance I would have DNFโ€™d somewhere around the middle.

I honestly donโ€™t know how I felt about this book because it sits comfortably in the middle for me. It wasnโ€™t bad, but it also wasnโ€™t particularly memorable. In fact, itโ€™s only been a couple of days since I finished the audiobook and Iโ€™m already struggling to remember many of the finer plot details, which probably tells you more than anything else about how much of an impact it left on me.

That being saidโ€ฆ I donโ€™t regret listening to it.

The opening chapters were easily my favourite part of the entire story. There was an eerie sense of foreboding woven through everything, and I genuinely felt like something huge was lurking just around the corner. It hooked me immediately and made me desperate to find out where the story was heading.

Unfortunately, that momentum eased off quite a bit through the middle of the book. The pacing remained quick, but rather than building suspense, it often felt like events simply happened one after another without enough time to really absorb them. By the time the ending arrived, I actually wished the final confrontation had been allowed to breathe a little more because it deserved far more drama than it ultimately delivered.

The overall plot is straightforward and very easy to follow. Thereโ€™s enough world-building to keep things interesting without overwhelming the romance, and I actually liked the mix of supernatural creatures beyond just the vampires. It felt like there was plenty more history and lore waiting to be explored, and Iโ€™d happily see future books delve much deeper into that side of the world.

Where the book stumbled for me was the romance.

This is definitely a very fast burn, bordering on insta-lust, and while I completely understood why the physical attraction happened so quickly given Roryโ€™s circumstances, I never quite believed the emotional connection developed at the same pace. The chemistry was certainly there physically, but emotionally I wanted more conversations, more vulnerability and more reasons to believe these two people truly belonged together beyond destiny deciding they should.

The fated mates element felt more like a shortcut than something that naturally grew from their relationship. Ironically, the emotional connection actually became much stronger later in the story, but by that point the book had already asked me to believe they shared this all-consuming love. I think if that emotional development had come first, the romance would have landed much more powerfully for me.

The spice was enjoyable enough, but readers expecting long, emotionally charged scenes may come away disappointed. There are plenty of explicit moments, but theyโ€™re generally shorter, quicker and much more focused on immediate passion than emotional intimacy. Personally, I tend to enjoy slower, more worshipful romance where the intimacy strengthens the relationship, and I felt that was missing here.

I think readers looking for a quick, spicy vampire romance with an easy-to-follow plot will probably have a great time. If, like me, youโ€™re someone who needs slow-burning emotional chemistry, deeply developed romance and unforgettable plot twists, this one may leave you wanting a little more.

For me, this was an easy audiobook rather than an unforgettable story, and sometimes thatโ€™s exactly what youโ€™re in the mood for.

Rory was an easy heroine to sympathise with. After the life sheโ€™d endured before the story even began, it was satisfying watching her slowly begin finding her own strength and carving out a future for herself. I also really enjoyed the found family dynamic. Those friendships ended up being one of my favourite parts of the book and, if Iโ€™m honest, I found myself just as invested in those relationships as I was in the romance.

Quill had far more personality than many vampire MMCs Iโ€™ve read recently. I appreciated that he had his own goals beyond simply existing as the love interest, and I liked the moral conflict surrounding the decisions he had to make. He wasnโ€™t just there to brood attractively in dark corners.

This just didnโ€™t hit the emotional depth I crave. I like insta lust but throw in good communication and real passion and youโ€™ve got a damn good story, without those additions you just have basic smut book.

Overall, Our Immortal Hearts is an enjoyable, easy romantasy with a straightforward plot, decent world-building, likeable characters and a strong audiobook performance. It never completely captured me emotionally, and I wanted far more depth from both the romance and the ending, but I still had a good enough time that Iโ€™d happily continue the series.

I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending it to all!

WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!

This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
