I started reading this mainly because I'm doing like a spinny thing to help me clear some of my Net Galley back shelf, and most of the time it is either romantasy or thrillers. So when the spinny wheel landed on One Summer in Paris, I was like, Am I really in the mood for this book?
Well, 100% was in the mood for this book; this book is like a welcome, warm hug. It's like returning home to family. Yeah, I've never met these characters before. They were new to me. But straight away, they were so relatable. Straight away, I was there for Grace when her husband wanted a divorce. I was there for Audrey when she was trying to leave home for the summer, and an alcoholic mum and the bear!! Oh, that got me.
This book was about the self-discovery of Grace and Audrey at their lowest points, a friendship you would never have thought would happen. And I was just here for everything. I literally blitzed three-quarters of this audiobook in one day because I didn't want to step away from Audrey and Grace. Lucy Tregear, who is the narrator, kept me going. Her voice was brilliant in this book. I just loved everything about it, and I really didn't want it to end.
This isn't my first book by Sarah Morgan, and I have come to love her characters. I want to go to the bookshop in Paris, and I just love everything that she gave us in this book. The realism, the hope, the love, and most of all, I really love the family that we got. I felt as soon as I shut the book, I knew that Audrey and Grace were going to be family for life. Their friendship was just so beautiful when Audrey gets a shocking phone call, and she goes to return home, and Grace is there, and you just think this, this is a friendship I want, and this is a friendship that I want in my life.
That's what I loved about this book: everything in this book felt real, and it gave you hope, and it was like a warm hug. Absolutely loved it. And, well, I need another book by Sarah. I need it now. She just knows what you want without you even realising it. She knows the characters you want without even realising it, and she knows you are going to love this book without even realising it.
