I think most people are familiar with the story of Hades & Persephone - it's one of my favorite stories within Greek mythology. In this novel, we really get to see the author's imagining of many more of the finer details of their story and how things unfold, which I really loved. I enjoyed that we also got parallel stories with Helios and Narcissus. It was a really nice touch. One of my favorite lines in the book was "Greece was Greece - people were naked."
I expected this to be a decent read, but probably not anything earth shattering for me. There was a surprising (to me) amount of depth and emotion to this, and I really enjoyed reading it. It added so much detail to the story of Hades & Persephone. The one nasty surprise was that I finished reading this digitally (started on audio) and uh...I didn't realize this was going to be a series. So that cliffhanger hit REAL hard. Be warned, this does NOT have a HEA in book one. It looks like there will be 5 books in the series, which I plan to devour as they come out.
I initially started listening to this on audio. It was alright, but not my favorite. It is dual narration. I felt like the audio didn't add much for me, and I preferred eyeball reading. That being said, if you're an audio-first reader, you'd likely enjoy it.
