Karla has done it AGAIN. In Crownless Heirs, Karla has weaved yet another captivating realm for us to explore: The Otherworld. The scenery descriptions are vivid and captivating, and it felt as if I was walking right alongside the group.
We got everything with this one - action, romance, peace, horror, and lore all wrapped up in a pretty little bow. I was already impressed with the horror and/or gorey descriptions in book one, but Karla really outdid herself in Crownless. The monsters are described with such perfect detail that the feel real, even down to the sounds and smells of their environments.
I really loved seeing the evolving relationships between our core three MCs in this one. Maelan became a fast favorite with his witty remarks and his incessant need to tease Kyron. And yes, Kyron is finally growing on me as he works past his tendency toward bitter jealousy when other people so much as look at Sorcha. But my favorite aspect of the dynamic between the trio? The way that Maelan and Kyron don't interfere with Sorcha evolving and leaning into her abilities. That trust is key for their relationships and it is displayed beautifully.
Crownless Heirs is a work of art and I loved every second of it. 10000/10 recommend along with book 1 for all fantasy lovers.
