I will start by saying I am fully obsessed with this world that Neena Laskowski has created. If you haven't read the Of Fire and Lies series, you NEED to. This is a spin-off of that, but it's a standalone so you don't have to necessarily read it. But just know some things will be spoiled.
I didn't know how to feel about Rian in Of Fire and Lies. I went back and forth on "do I feel bad for this dude or do I hate him because he is standing in the way of my loves being together". Eventually, I came around and I am SO glad I did. He is a love bug that just needs a hug.
And then we have Erualys Valora. She is a badass and I want to be her when I grow up. I want to train like her, sharpen my nails like her, and wear pins in my hair that turn into weapons. She is amazing.
I love how Neena showed PTSD, trauma, heart break, and anxiety. I felt it in my soul and it always heals something in me to see my own emotions reflected in books.
