Okay, this series is honestly SO good, but this book is easily my favorite so far. I originally rated it a loved it/slightly obsessed, but I kept thinking about it days later. I kept going back to reread sections, and eventually I had to admit that clearly meant something. So I upgraded it to full obsessed because there was no way this book didn't deserve it after living rent-free in my head.
These two…MY GOODNESS. They are such grumps when around each other. They hate how much they want each other and fight it SO hard. They're only grumpy when they're around each other and it was so fun to see. All that internal turmoil and insecurity has them constantly assuming the worst. They both think, "Why would someone like them want someone like me?" And it really just broke my heart to see both of them thinking the worst when I wish they could've seen themselves the way the other saw them because I'm over here screaming at the pages for them to just tell each other!
THE ANGST. The longing. The yearning. I was pining for these two the entire time.
I had so many feelings about Ezra. The way he fought so hard to make sure he never took advantage of Rina and that she always had a choice was incredibly important to him. But by keeping things from her, he inadvertently took away her ability to make an informed choice. And watching Rina believe he hated her when, in reality, he was literally destroying himself trying to protect her and free her from being tied to him forever because he genuinely believed she deserved better? PAIN.
The spice was on point, too. 🔥 And I loved watching them slowly realize that their first impressions of each other were completely wrong. It genuinely felt like watching Belle and the Beast fall in love, except with significantly more angst, yearning, and vampire/witch chaos.
And then everything comes to a head at the end and Rina basically says, “Don't fuck with my man.” And she MEANS IT. She'll take down anyone who stands between her and Ezra. She's one badass woman.
She's not eternally his.
He's eternally hers.
