Imagine being rescued from a tower by two handsome gentlemen and immediately becoming (sort of) engaged to one of them. Then, imagine arriving at the castle and finding out it likes you so much that you’re granted exclusive access to its hidden library. It’s safe to say our FMC, Niamh, is living THE life.
I was lucky enough to snag the audiobook, and it features my favorite kind of narration: a full duet. Gail Shalan and Patrick Zeller absolutely knocked it out of the park. While they were both incredible with the various endearing characters, Zeller’s voice for Morton, the sassy bookwyrm, stole the show with the best quips and observations. Each character had such a distinct tone that it added a whole new level of immersion to the story.
Although this is a cozy read, it doesn't shy away from heavier themes like grief, loss, and trauma. As Niamh gets to know her fiancé’s broody bodyguard brother, Wolfe, they begin to open up and support each other's healing. Wolfe is a man whose sole focus is protecting his brother, Prince Cillian, but he softens just for Niamh. Their dynamic is truly precious.
If you’re looking for a quick, comforting read with a dash of spice, I highly recommend picking up This Damsel Is Not In Distress . This is the first in an interconnected series, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Wolfe’s brothers, Cillian and Nevan!
