Book: Never Ever After by Sue Lynn Tan
Reviewed by Anonymous
I enjoyed Never Ever After, but I am disappointed as I expected to love it, given I love Sue Lynn Tan's other books.
At 31 pages in, I found myself curious as to who will be the love interest. I spent some time in the middle feeling bored with the love triangle and the big bad prince. I wasn't feeling super compelled to read on, and did end up pushing through here a bit.
There are trial(s) in this book. I expected that to be a bigger part. The trial started at 43%. By 47% we were starting part three of the book and done with the trial.
I ended up reading from ~30% to 80% when I had some focused reading time. There was surprisingly little that ended up happening in that part of the book/day of reading.
I found the bad guy to be simply unlikeable, but not even in the good way. The ending of this was a bit meh for me. At the time I finished this, I rated it a 3.5, but think that was at least in part wishful thinking given how much I generally love this author. After having sat with this for a couple weeks, it's very solidly (maybe slightly generously) at a 3 star. That being said, I may still continue on with the sequel as I am interested in finding out what happens next.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book!
