As much as I love B.K. Borison's contemporary romances, I love her paranormal even more. She can weave the fantastical and the mundane together so well into a tapestry of words that can make me laugh, cry and contemplate the meaning of life.
Darcy is a reaper who hates her job. She's tired of feeling like the bad guy as she releases people from the mortal coil. When she stumbles into Gabriel, a guardian, she realizes she may have a chance to do something different.
Gabriel knows he shouldn't trust Darcy. She's the antithesis to everything he's spent his afterlife to achieve. She takes the souls he's been tasked with protecting. But he finds himself irresistibly drawn to the reaper.
They have to muddle through a lot before they learn (in a way that had me absolutely sobbing into my Kindle) that death isn't necessarily an evil. It can be a relief to those it eventually comes for. And that death doesn't necessarily have to mean an end, just a change of address.
Grim Tidings got me in the feels repeatedly, but it wasn't just page after page of emotional damage. There was plenty of lighthearted moments, banter and spice to make it a wonderfully well rounded story. Thank you Avon and NetGalley for the opportunity to advance read.
