Hannah Elliott’s writing is deeply atmospheric and every scene feels soaked in tension, dread and the quiet resilience of women that are trying to survive in world that is designed to break them. The society portrayed here is suffocatingly restrictive, a place where women are treated as possessions rather than people, and the way it’s written makes it feel terrifyingly plausible. It’s unsettling because it echoes realities that still exist today, and that truth hits hard.
While the main plot centres on survival and resistance, the relationships woven throughout the narrative are beautifully organic. They don’t feel manufactured or conveniently placed.
