Book: Betrayals of the Broken by Jaime L. Tlax

A confounding story weaved with magic, mayhem, and mystery. Elverilene and her friend are kidnapped and forced into a magical world where they are accused of stealing magic, and she is tortured by her guard until she is forced to admit to the theft. She attempts escape and tortured rescue her friend multiple times with no success as more plot is revealed.
Betrayal seems to be a common theme both by the Centress, Eli, and Kelter, leaving Ever with constant distrust and confusion and with no magical abilities, how will she rescue her friend and escape home?
This book kept me guessing the plot constantly, but part of the reason was trying to figure out what exactly was going on. I enjoyed the MFC Everilene and the MMC Elivander’s relationship, particularly the enemies to lovers storyline with second male character-Kelter- with a possible why choose. Things do become a lot clearer closer to the end of the book, only for an abrupt ending to happen. Perhaps book 2 clears things up.

“My mind floods with every moment spent with this devastating man-the tug of my ear, my hand in his pocket, the touch of our toes, water up to my neck. Too many tiny moments pulling me into him when I should be running away.”
