You Won't Forget Me by Mazey Eddings

This was my second Mazey Eddings book, and I'm quickly learning that she has a real talent for writing characters who are messy, neurotic, and deeply relatable.
Cubby is such a fascinating protagonist. Between an ex whose music career is taking off after stealing one of her songs, a showmance with her band's keyboardist, Harry, and growing feelings for her best friend Darcy that have her questioning her sexuality, she has a lot on her plate. It would be easy for all of those storylines to feel overwhelming, but they come together in a way that feels authentic and emotionally grounded.
One of the strongest aspects of the book is its commentary on the different ways women and men are treated in the public eye. It genuinely hurt to watch Cubby become the villain of her own story in the media. Her cheating ex gets painted as the heartbroken victim, while Harry is portrayed as a lovesick pawn being used for revenge and publicity. Meanwhile, Cubby is criticized from every angle. It felt frustratingly realistic and made me root for her even harder.
The romance between Cubby and Darcy is a slow burn. Like, glacial. There were multiple points where I wanted to shake both of them and tell them to get it together already. But honestly, that's part of what made it work. The jealousy, the missteps, the periods of silence—it all builds toward a payoff that feels completely earned when they finally confess their feelings.
I also adored the secondary characters. Harry, in particular, completely stole my heart. It's obvious from early on that he loves Cubby in some capacity, whether romantically or platonically, and every scene with him added something special to the story. In my ideal universe, Cubby, Darcy, and Harry ride off into the sunset as a throuple and live happily ever after.
Overall, this was an emotional, thoughtful story about friendship, identity, love, and surviving public scrutiny. It definitely won't be my last Mazey Eddings book.
