Messy and Intense

Book: Retrograde: A Dark Dystopian Romance by Margo Smythe

If you’re looking for a gritty, high-stakes dark dystopian romance with plenty of spice and a morally grey dynamic, Retrograde by Margo Smythe is definitely a read for you.

The world-building sets a grim, fractured stage, and Aron Krasnik, our MMC, brings a deliciously ruthless energy to the table. The tension between him and Riley is thick, angsty, and packed with that warped sense of justice and forced proximity that dark romance readers will love.

Having read and loved another book by Margo Smythe, I was eager to jump into this one even though I'm not a huge fan of dystopians. It could be due to the overarching portions that we haven't seen yet, but the world-building left some parts that left to be desired. However, the story itself is messy, intense, and doesn't shy away from dark themes.

Overall, it kept me hooked enough that I'll be picking up the next book in the series. Just be sure to check your trigger warnings before diving in!

Thank you to Margo Smythe for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
