I adored this book. The beginning pulls you right in and if you love books about families, this one is for you. It’s got the meddling mother, the scandalous aunt, the loving siblings, the eldest daughter, the friends, the small town, the intense/adorable puppy, and of course a hot firefighter who is new to town and the puppy’s owner who has eyes for the vet’s mom!
While reading you get to learn about the family dynamics and see how each family member has (or has not) worked through the grief of losing their father/husband/brother-in-law. It’s been years since he passed but that doesn’t seem to have made it any easier as they enter this journey of romance, family, and living with grief.
We also get to see a plot point around Lindsay’s fibromyalgia, what it means to love with chronic pain and how she chooses to share that with others. While I loved that it was included, I would’ve liked to see more of her experience of it sprinkled throughout the book instead of only when it is a plot point.
Would I read more by this author? Yes! The family dialogue felt SO REAL and I loved the dual romance stories.
P.S.
This book was written as a “love letter to Diane Keaton and all of the quirky, charming, loving, magical mothers she played over the years,” and it shows through with the incredible depth of these characters.
Rest in Peace, Diane Keaton, who passed away recently. 💕
