Thank you The Hive, Hanover Square Press and Libro.fm for the gifted book & audiobook. All opinions are my own.
One of those reads that stuck with me long after finishing.
A dual timeline story, bouncing between the present and 1645. Taking us behind bars with the women (and one man) being charged with witchcraft. And to the woman being haunted by her ancestor’s plight.
It was gut wrenching following along with all the accused through their ordeals, from the imprisonment, torture, and loss of any hope. There were some real emotional moments, and I really got choked up by certain happenings.
I was not only hooked to the witch trial story, but also by Lilith’s story in the present, full of magic and discovery, and a wee bit of romance.
There’s a bit of a mystery with a finite deadline that kept the suspense up, and that climax had me absolutely riveted.
A story of woman, sisterhood, and resilience. Loved it.
Audiobook notes: Every time I listen to a book narrated by Saskia Maarleveld, I’m reminded of just how much I love her! In this one, she had English and a (light) New Orleans accent on her plate, plus many different voices, and was just amazing with them all. I especially always love her range of female voices, and she had a great cast of characters to work with in this one.
