This was a cute story about AJ, a news writer who unwittingly made a misogynistic comment in his article about a local firefighter. To fix it, his editor tasks him to spend 2 weeks at the firehouse with said firefighter and write a feature about his experience. Pippa, the firefighter in question doesn't want to be seen as a crusader, she just wants to do her job.
Over the 2 weeks, AJ experiences light hazing, physical humiliation, and tense moments on real call-outs that make him re think his opinions on first responders. Pippa puts him through a little bit of physical testing (because who wouldn't?), and generally tries to make sure he doesn't get in the way.
I enoyed seeing how these circumstances allowed for respect to grow between them. And that respect blooms into admiration and affection. The love story itself is sweet and filled with tension, while still respecting the seriousness of the job.
It was surprising how the serious and difficult topics are dealt with in mature ways, while still infusing humor and heart throughout.
It was a great ending to the Hearts of the Press series.
