This book is very different from what I have normally read from this author. It discusses purity culture and how it affects girls and women.
Kaycee was raised in "purity culture", meaning waiting until after marriage to have sex. Kaycee gets engaged, and wants it all - marriage, baby, happily ever after. She goes home one day and finds her fiance in bed with another woman, saying that he just needs to get it out of his system and then he will be loyal to her and ready to get married. Kaycee is heartbroken and heads to a local bar, where she makes an impulsive decision to go home with a man she just met (Nash).
Nash is a hardworker, and all he's ever wanted is a family. His girlfriend didn't want the same things, so they broke up. He doesn't believe in one-night stands, then he meets Kaycee in a local bar and they wind up spending the night together. He lets her walk away.
I loved Nash - he is any woman's dream for sure. He's strong, handsome, committed. I loved him for Kaycee, and I think they make a great couple. I enjoyed Kaycee also. Furthermore, I felt sorry for her, and I could somewhat relate to her self talk. I grew up in Utah and was a baptised - 1000% purity culture right there. I also have ADHD and austism (and I'm sure other things ha ha), and so my mind never shuts up. Likewise, I also have a strong sense of justice, so I get super heated when I see that women have different consequences than men for the same exact action. I dated a strict Mormon boy in high school, and the guilt and punishment he gave to both of us for just KISSING was insanity! I am no longer part of that religion, and it was a LONG time ago.
Not only that, but I hated how everyone treated Kaycee after the one-night stand. Her parents were just terrible to her, and it made me so mad!
This story was lovely and the author told it so well! I was laughing and crying - it was an emotional journey! It was a great read, and I great distration from what I normally read. I really enjoyed it!
