After reading Heir of Prophecy I was so excited to check out what else Annaleigh Sbrana had written, and Lore of the Wilds/Lore of the Tides looked so good! And I don't know how else to describe my feelings aside from: it's interesting to see where the amazing book I love (Heir of Prophecy) came from. Which is to say, Sbrana's skill as a writer grew SO MUCH between the Lore duology and Heir of Prophecy!
The setting is cool, and I will always love the cognitive dissonance that fae have to work themselves around to require help from "lesser" beings even though they are so elevated and perfect. Guys if you were perfect and great you wouldn't need a clever human girl to come organize your library, and you certainly wouldn't need REDACTED because WHAT in the FUCK.
That said, outside of Lore, a lot of the characters felt flat. It just read like somebody taking an interesting concept and then filling it in with the factory settings instead of taking full advantage of what makes this setting different and special.
I do plan to read Lore of the Tides as well, but not right away - I care, but not enough to see the rest right now-right now. Although I will say that this would make such a good TV show, it has the right kind of drama arcs and come on it's full of hotties (I know costuming Isla would be so much fun).
"What is one human girl going to do against a powerful fae queen?" Finndryl asked, his voice gentle but firm.
