When I got lent this book, I was not sure that I was going to like it. The presentation of the story was through transmission logs, files, and chat logs rather than the traditional narrative structure which put me off at first. BUT I promised that I would read it and I carried on, which I am SO grateful for!! This book took me for a complete ride, there was teen break up and romance, loss, grief, fights for survival, a zombie plague and of course an enemy AI. It was AMAZING!! Set in the far future where humans have expanded across the universe, our FMC, Kady, is a blackhat hacker who hides her skills from the military leaders in her escaped ship after an attack on her home settlement. Her ex, Ezra, also managed to escape but is on another ship. Both are enlisted to help fight off their enemy, Ezra as a fighter pilot and Kady as an intel specialist, but both realise that their leaders have been hiding horrific secrets from them. While in the background, the AI system tasked with protecting the ships is developing its own free will. I highly recommend this sci-fi adventure!!
