Did I expect to cry on the train on my way to work while immersive reading this one? No. Should I have expected that when Resonance made me cry walking the dog for a similar reason? YEP.

While we knew there was some sort of connection between Thea and Lockie after we get to know him more in Resonance, we find out that their history goes back more than a decade. A single night 12 years earlier, they both throw caution to the wind with the expectation of spending a single night together, no strings attached. But when their night together turns into a weekend turns into fleeting moments over 12 years, it's no shock the two of them end up in the situation in Dissonance.

Lockie is ever the protector and always there to protect the people he loves and cares for. That's part of his core when he wasn't able to do the same for his younger brother. So when Thea accidentally gets pregnant, the future he expected to have never included a family because a family means people you love, and the thought of him loving and potentially not being able to protect them and losing them is one of Lachlan's biggest fears.

Thea, on the other hand, spent the last 10+ years proving herself in the music industry with successes such as Reign Cooper. She's now taking a chance on another young artist with his fair share of scandal that's always keeping her busy. With her father always trying to get her to come back under the umbrella of the family business, a baby is the last thing she needed to keep her empire growing.

I had a soft spot for Lockie since he was a large part of the efforts to help Paige in Cadence, but I wasn't prepared for the depth of his character and the way Thea was able to soften for him. I genuinely just loved the two of them together and there were multiple times immersive reading this story that the two of them had me tearing up.

Vari Scott just continues to tear my heart out and I come back asking for more. This book was heartwarming and showed that sometimes the unexpected knocking you on your ass can really push you toward something greater, and I love a message like that. I love this series and highly recommend, but especially Dissonance. It's personally my favorite out of the three so far!

Shane East and Stella Hunter were fantastic in this. Both of their Scottish accents sounded good to me (as a non-Scottish American listener). The only thing that could've made this audiobook better was if it was duet vs dual, but even then, they did a fantastic job voicing the other's lines when needed.
