What a wild ride in this third installment. The book picks up immediately where the story leaves off in book two with Draven, Selena and their entire group fleeing from the Icehearts on dragon back. Selena is hurt and Draven will do anything to protect and find someone to heal her. This leads them to the Unseelie Court to find a healer. The Unseelie King, Orion has ulterior motives when the group pushes their boundaries to force the King's hand to help them and allow them entrance to his kingdom. Certain agreements are made, but at what cost to their lives or freedoms? Things escalate from there and they are thrown into a series of grueling trials to win their freedom again! These trials are relentless and brutal, Selena and the team have trained and learned new ways to use their powers and skills. Selena learns more about her magic than she bargains for and she's unsure how she feels about these new found enhanced powers.
This installment spends a lot of time navigating the policies and culture of the Unseelie Kingdom and people. The King is handsome, selfish and wants what he wants, even if it's their lives. The group struggles to find their way through the trials that test their faith, trust in each other and how far they will go to win. As always we get fun banter and hot moments between Draven and Selena. Just when you think you know what will happen, the end said...YOU'RE WRONG! I was devastated by the cliffhanger ending and I am ready for the next installment.
