Book: on the verge by T.K. Drake

This book is in an interesting genre I have found lately, an intersection between mafia and hockey romance. Ellie is a sheltered mafia princess in Florida, whose brothers play for the local pro hockey team. Teddy is the newly traded goalie. He finds out after moving to Florida from New York that he is connected to the underworld too. Both Ellie and Teddy hide these connections from each other while they start their relationship.
I really enjoyed their love story, how they meet, and Teddy's plans for their dates are thoughtful and sweet. They have excellent chemistry and the spice is nice and plentiful from the start. For the first half of the book they are in a fun little bubble of their relationship, hiding it from her overprotective brothers (his teammates). I could feel the tension building until things get upended, and lies come out.
I loved the world Drake has built, the group of the hockey team, and even both of their extended families. It was a fast paced book, and I think I finished it in 24 hours. There were some dark themes, but it was not too dark for me.
All in all it was an interesting mix of a lot of tropes I love. I enjoyed the story and I look forward to the next book in the series. If you are as obsessed with hockey romance as I am, this is definitely worth checking out.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
